A Memoir That Reaches Back In Time
Cindy Scott releases, Never Forsaken, a labor of love told by the daughter of Marion Ghent Jose Lau. Cindy's mother’s memoir reaches back in time to the early 1900’s, through WWII, to present day.
Cindy Scott spent two years gathering the several manuscripts her mother penned over fifteen years and combined them with taped interviews to fill in the gaps. The finished work fulfills her promise before her mother's death to see this book, Never Forsaken, published.
Never Forsaken is a true-life testimony of survival and restoration after WWII, including the big move to America for a better life. I was hooked from the first chapter. Marion’s rendition of life back then, her father’s radical transformation, becoming born again after being a drinker and gambler, reeled me right in. With a tinge of humor in the section of Papa’s new life, this is a touching sentiment of how the Word of God broke through such a calloused heart.
Readers will find Marion Ghent’s harrowing journey as a young girl in the Philippines an amazing adventure. Being the youngest of eleven living siblings and the daughter of a colporteur for the American Bible Society, surely this story is an inspiring read that relates God’s absolute faithfulness and how He works in the humblest of ways. The book also relays the efforts of the foot soldiers of the Gospel, and reveals the treasure of how the Gospel goes forth.
The Ghent’s surviving the shock of war and the tragedies that followed, shed light on loss, but a strong, persevering faith that comes to fruition in finding a new life in America. Certainly, this may be a movie in the making. Exciting, touching, and a powerful story, amazing endurance unfolds during some of life’s pivotal moments, relating Marion’s tale of never being forsaken by God.
Leading to a triumphant restoration with long lost family members after the scattering of the War years, the author takes readers from beginning to an end of an era long gone. One will be left in awe and find inspiration to all that Marion Ghent and her relatives had to go through during those humble years in the Philippines, escaping and hiding in the jungle for three years. In this miraculous book, history literally unfolds as the awful horrors of war in a foreign country.
Cindy Scott has culminated history and the telling of Marion's story, and her life experience that also includes photos, maps, text and indexes explaining these far off and quite exotic places in the Philippines. What an amazing read!
One will find that faith, courage, and overcoming do not come without struggles. Yet, God is ever faithful!
This book comes highly recommended for those that enjoy true-life war stories, happy endings, with God in the mix! I sincerely hope this book becomes a movie. For me, as one who reads many books, this one was truly memorable and unforgettable.

God Is In The Midst Of It All
What are you doing today reader, is life difficult? Throughout the world we are experiencing a terrifying surge of unknown happenings, that can be very frightening.
Possibly, you are also finding it difficult to see a sign post of hope. It is true that when you don't know the way forward it can be very unsettling. Although let us make a declaration. God is there He knows each one of us and loves us. His plans are extensive and we can trust Him.
Of course, at the beginning of the world when creation started everything was peaceful. Tranquility and hope pervaded the atmosphere, where trees and shrubs bowed to the creator of the universe when He went past. Nature was rapturous in this atmosphere, although soon everything changed when the blight of sin brought corruption.
This encroaching sin, began to dominate the mournful earth, like a plateau of blackness and permeated everything. Many years on, a glimmer of light, showed that change was coming. When a company of angels lit up the sky over shepherds in the fields, it was electric, excitement was rife as the whole earth experienced the remarkable touch of Heaven to earth! All nature was ecstatic, a new order was about to happen and in Heaven there was an explosion of joy. The world was experiencing possibilities for the future that were endless, once the Saviour arrived.
Once the world felt the touch of The Lord Jesus, and His beautiful voice called the elements to order on the lake, His actions declared that change. Every tree was alive to the aroma that the mighty Son of God brought, singing in silent rapturous praise. He is the Lord!
However there was one small fig tree, that was deaf to this resounding praise and chose to lay dormant, when the Lord walked that way.
In our world there is an element that is never seen with the naked eye, but known so well by the extraordinary power and anointing of God. A small fig tree seems so incidental but it is an segment that stands out, next to the majesty of the Lord. Similarly today, it is abundantly clear, that the attitude and intentions of many in this world is like that barren tree. Arrogantly holding a willful disdain for the Lord Jesus Christ and for all that is not understood, as irrelevant. Scorning the value of the cross and giving allegiance to a Saviour as an amusing anecdote.
Reader, let me describe my experience when forty four years ago I read two books that directed me to this Saviour. I found it amazing on reading the evidence and after confirming it in the bible, I decided I must respond and did so on my knees in repentance.
I can tell you here and now, that it was a most remarkable experience. The Lord Jesus Christ is real, and I felt His touch as my tears fell, He was there alright, right next to me. I was changed as a fountain of pure love transformed me. He filled me with His Holy Spirit power, and wiped the heart ache of many broken years. I knew completely that He would never leave me and got up on my feet a women saved by grace. Wherever you are whatever your heartache is bring it to the Saviour of the world, He is waiting to hear from you! John 8 I am the light of the world, whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.
Matthew 8 v26-27 ….Then he got up an rebuked the wind and waves....they were amazed, what kind of man is this,.... that even the wind and waves obey him?

Here are two great books authored by a fantastic author who is dedicated to helping both parents and children find Victory and overcome abuse while also providing the tools to be watchful for child predators.
Author Reina Davison releases Overcoming Abuse: Child Sexual Abuse Prevention and Protection--A Guide for Parents Caregivers and Helpers by Reina Davison offers a 3-part handbook to parents, caregivers, and helpers to aid in protection against child sexual abuse. Coupled with the use of Biblical principles, stages of development in children, this book teaches, educates and gives parents the arsenal they need to educate themselves and their families in either prevention or healing from traumatic child sexual abuse (CSA).
Giving the definitions of child sexual abuse (CSA) and the staggering statistics in our nation, coupled with the abuse worldwide – the abuse of children is unprecedented.
Our day and age is raging with this sin against the most innocent of beings – children. Abuse comes in many forms and can be quite insidious, thus the author’s efforts focus on sexual abuse. She also gives insight into the psychiatric dynamics of a sexual predator or offender. Overcoming Abuse: My Body Belongs to God and Me – A Child’s Body Safety Guide by Reina Davison speaks to children, telling them they are “Overcomers.”
This is a wonderful truth in God’s Word, as she begins the book by the definition of what an overcomer is. Opening children’s eyes to the truth of God’s purpose and plans for them, she goes on to describe God’s gift of free will. Describing Good Touch and Bad Touch; she elaborates on these two and what that can encompass. There are Good Touch people and Bad Touch people. Her book gives hope to children who have or have not experienced abuse by speaking the truth of God’s love and care for their body. She also teaches children how to prevent abuse by giving them the tools to know the difference between a healthy relationship and unhealthy relationships.
Writing from a Biblical perspective, yet incredibly gentle and simple, Reina Davison gives hope and guidance that exposes the darkness and sin of the enemy lurking in our lives. These people are unsafe and “No Touch” people as Reina explains. Her premise teaches children the principle of becoming “Overcomers” in Christ Jesus. This is a fantastic book that teaches wonderful and enlightening spiritual truths to children. (Note: This book just may encourage adults as well; teaching them that they are overcomers!) I personally enjoyed the uplifting truths to her book and thought…I wish I had a book such as this when I was a child. You will be delighted by this book as well.
As a guidebook, this book teaches parents, caregivers, family members, etc., to understand what safe behavior is in and out of the home. Her Body Safety guide in the back provides a checklist for adults to adhere to in protecting children. With beautiful illustrations, the author sheds light on walking in the truth of God’s Word, while giving them instruction of their enemy (the devil), the Bible, and Jesus, offering hope and encouragement to look to Jesus as their help and Savior. Her book shows that God has a good plan for them and cares for them. She shares that they are Overcomers and can defeat the enemy (the devil) and that because of Jesus, they too can choose to be of Good Cheer (be happy).
This book comes highly recommended for all children who need to be taught encouraging truths about God’s Word, and especially is a tool to be used by parents, counselors, pastors, child psychologists, medical personnel, and lay persons to teach about healthy sexual boundaries.
To tell you the truth, this is one of those books parents should utilize in teaching their children about bad people that sin and touch inappropriately. She has given a list of resources in the back of the book, and is an advocate of ending child sexual abuse. Written with grace, wisdom, and sensitivity to children’s pure intellects, this book does a wonderful job in tackling a difficult subject.

A Faith Building Read
Gail Baker pens a delightful and life-enriching memoir. Filled with memorable familial insights and battles, Gail Baker relates her common Jewish family, bridging the gap between tradition and faith as a Jewish woman ...
Raised as a Jewish girl amongst many Christians, Gail Baker grew up in Columbia, South Carolina. Blending a tenacious personality, humor, and candor, her intelligence and analytical abilities shine throughout the book. A timeline of poignant moments from childhood to adulthood defined and shaped her family, her life and some of her outcomes.
Lovingly speaking of her family roots and history, her story unfolds as a young girl coming of age. Insights and highlights shed light into the beliefs of her Jewish family, the era they lived in and Jewish resolve and unity from her family’s effortless support of humanitarian efforts, to include the establishment of Israel as a nation in 1967.
I found myself not able to put down her memoir. As I read of the turbulent 60’s during her days in college, she reflects back on her upbringing that relates dysfunction on many levels. Despite, Judaism (which played a nominal role in Gail’s young life), she describes a young girl cloistered by the knowledge of anti-semitism and shallow Christianity. This led to a voracious pursuit of philosophical and theological dictum that bring about understanding of the ideals she has come to know. She shares these perspectives, quotes, scripture verses and insight that gives her book texture and depth. She relates a deep spiritual journey that led to a splendid concession of simply coming to the only One that could bring peace to her soul, Jesus Christ.
With such harmony, she summarizes misconceptions, anxiety, fear, faith and the issues with raising a child that came into difficulty. She also fervently describes her loving pursuit in helping her son, in which her mother’s heart is revealed in such a tender way.
What readers will find is that woven within the tapestry of her book springs forth a deep spiritual conviction to find Truth. This book will move readers deep within their soul, build faith and inspire admiration for God’s chosen people. Her sculpted memoir relates grace and intensity simultaneously. Her story culminates in a wonderful and beautiful love story from a “not-so Kosher Jewish girl that fell in love with Jesus.”
